Marvin Thomas Shantz, age 81, of Stratford passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on April 19, 2018. Born in Stratford, May 14, 1936, son of the late Milton and Ellen (Cahill) Shantz.   

Beloved husband for 56 years of Mary Lou (Howey). Loving father of Sherrill Denny (Jerry) and Stephen Shantz. Grandfather of Heather and Brett Denny. Brother of Eugene Shantz, Father Russell Shantz, Doris Devlin, Valerie Campbell, Elaine Lewicki (Joe) and Carole McGuire (Ken). Also survived by sister-in-law Fran Shantz and many nieces and nephews.   

Predeceased by brothers Morley, Bruce and Wayne Shantz, sisters Madeline Lee, Miriam DeBeck, Elva and Zita Shantz, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Roy Lee, Pete DeBeck, Jack Devlin, Louis Campbell, Jeanne Shantz, Jim, Bill, Ken (Patricia) and George Howey, parents-in-law Elmo and Lula Howey and guardians-in-law Carl and Gladys Scrimegour.   

Marvin worked as a firefighter with the City of Stratford, retiring as Captain in 1996. He was an avid sportsman and fan, and was a member of St. Joseph’s Church, Stratford.   

Friends and relatives may call at the W.G. Young Funeral Home, 430 Huron Street, Stratford on Monday, April 23, from 2-4 and 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. The funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, 96 Huron Street, Stratford on Tuesday, April 24, at 11 a.m. Rev. Fr. Dick Bester – celebrant.
