Bob Traversy

Bob Traversy
At Stratford General Hospital on May 6, 2017, Bob Traversy, 87, passed away following complications after a fall. His beloved wife of over 58 years, Gail (née Stronach), daughters Robin and Nancy, son Bruce, sons-in-law Daniel and Martin and daughter-in-law Cindy were by his side. He was predeceased by his parents, Isidore A. and Emma Traversy; his brothers, Gene and Arthur; and his sister, Pauline. Bob was born and spent most of his childhood in Ottawa, relocating to Kingston when his father and older brothers were sent overseas with the Canadian Armed Forces during the Second World War. He began his own military career when he joined the Royal Canadian Engineers in 1947 at the age of eighteen, and was posted five years later to Korea with the 23rd Engineer Field Squadron for a tour of duty with the U.N. 25th Commonwealth Infantry Brigade. Bob spent twenty-five years in the military with postings across Canada, including the world's most northerly inhabited location in CFS Alert, Nunavut where he assisted in building the first permanent station. By the time he retired from army life in 1972, Bob had risen to the rank of Warrant Officer. He subsequently worked for the Ottawa and Perth & Stratford Housing Authorities until his retirement in 1993. Bob was a talented builder, carpenter, cabinetmaker and handyman who was respected by all who knew him for his strong work ethic, ingenuity, resourcefulness, organizational skills and ability to solve any problem he was given. Above all, he loved and was cherished by his wife, three children and nine grandchildren – Meaghan, Kristen, Erin, Jordan, Heath, Gabriel, Molly, Mia and Clara – who will very much miss his energy, strength, determination and, most of all, his endearing sense of humour. A family gathering to celebrate Bob’s life will be held this summer in Stratford, Ontario. As expressions of sympathy, memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation (www.cpff.ca) or the Alzheimer Society of Canada (www.alzheimer.ca) through the W. G. Young Funeral Home and would be sincerely appreciated by the family. 519.271.7411 www.wgyoungfuneralhome.com
