Alexander Rennie, died on Thursday, June 22, 2017 at Stratford General Hospital following a brief illness.
Born in Glasgow, Scotland on December 8, 1927 to James Rennie and Mary Pirie Rennie, Alex was christened in the Maryhill Barracks – a Son of the Regiment. He attended Allan Glen’s School in Glasgow on a full scholarship and then entered the Royal Airforce where he served from 1945-1948.
Alex began his career in the Scottish shipping industry, first working for Frank C. Strick & Co. where he sat and passed the examinations for The Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers, taking first place for Scotland, and later for the William Martin Co.
In 1957 Alex emigrated to Canada and settled in Stratford, Ontario where he began work as a labourer at Canadian Fabricated Products. Following a short lay off, he was recalled to the office of Canadian Fab where he remained for 35 years in various roles. In 1975 he was appointed Plant Manager, a position he held for 17 years until his retirement in 1992.
While successful in his professional life, Alex’s true success is reflected in the legacy of love, laughter, compassion and generosity he leaves for his family. He is survived by the love of his life and wife of 57 years, Aileen, his children Alistair and wife Diane of Boston, MA and Valerie and husband David of Windsor, ON along with his four adoring grandchildren Emilie and Olivia Rennie and Michael and Katherine Critchley. He is also survived by his sisters Sadie Reilly of Glasgow, Scotland, Annette Wallace of Queens, NY, Marion White (Balfour) of Glasgow Scotland and brother Ian Rennie (Marian) of Glasgow Scotland, as well as several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank Drs. Adam Maruschak, Shane Smith, Jason Bandey, and Andrew House as well as the nurses of the emergency, surgical and critical care units of Stratford General Hospital for their exceptional care and compassion.
