Allan James Ballantyne, age 77, of RR# 3 Stratford passed away peacefully surrounded by his family at the Stratford General Hospital on January 9, 2015. He was born in Stratford, son of the late James and Agnes Ballantyne. Allan farmed in Downie Township and later owned and operated Ballantyne Construction. He was a member of Avonton Presbyterian Church. Allan loved watching his grandchildren at their sports activities. He loved playing and coaching ball and harness racing. Beloved husband for 58 years of Helene (Barr). Loving father of Marie McNamara (Dan) and their children Bridget, Rachel (Colin); Richard Ballantyne (Jan) and their children Ryan and Jocelyn; Lori Heaman (Mike) and her son Cody; Trevor Ballantyne (Angie) and their children Brady and Sydney. Also survived by his sister Inez Flanagan, a brother-in-law Warren Patton and several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents he was predeceased by a sister Helen Schellenberger, by brothers-in-law Ralph Schellenberger and Jack Flanagan, a sister-in-law Ruth Patton and by his father-in-law and mother-in-law Jim and Ruby Barr. Friends and relatives may call at the W.G. Young Funeral Home, 430 Huron Street, Stratford on Wednesday, January 14, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. The funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Thursday at 11 a.m. Rev. Catherine Calkin will officiate. Spring interment at Avonbank Cemetery.
