Edward Arthur Messerschmidt, age 87, a resident of Spruce Lodge, Stratford passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on January 23, 2015. Edward was born on the family farm in Fullarton Township, March 10, 1927, a son of the late Alfred and Mary (Schellenberger) Messerschmidt. Ed worked as Parts Manager at Kalbfleisch Brothers for 40 years until his retirement. He was a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, Stratford. Ed was a car enthusiast. He loved a shiny clean car, loved talking about automobiles and enjoyed many summer family road trips to Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, Fort Wayne, Indiana and Florida. He was an avid blood donor and supporter of the Canadian Red Cross. Beloved husband for 59 years of Sarah (Johnston). Loving father of Gloria Allen, Judith and Ivan (Sherry). Ed was a proud grandfather and will be sadly missed by his grandchildren Ashley, Sarah and Cayla Allen, Michael and Michelle Messerschmidt. Dear brother of Margaret Renecker, Viola Messerschmidt, Esther Dennis (Don). Also survived by a brother-in-law Howard Nichol and several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents he was predeceased by brothers Harold (Audrey), Earl, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law George Renecker, Ivy Laybolt (Dermott), Stanley Johnston, Martha Goforth (Robert) and Vivian Nichol. A family funeral service will be held followed by interment in 1st St. John’s Lutheran Church Cemetery, Seebach’s Hill. Rev. Timothy Teuscher will officiate. As expressions of sympathy, memorial donations may be made to the Huron Perth Lung Association, St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, Stratford or to the Canadian Red Cross through the W.G.
