Dr. Norvel Walter Francis (Pinky) Scratch, passed away with his loving family by his side at Cedarcroft Place, Stratford on April 3, 2015 in his 100th year. He was born in Maymont, Saskatchewan, October 26, 1915, son of the late Dr. John A. Scratch and Matilda Maude Learmonth. Beloved husband of the late Dr. Ruth Margaret (Vokes) who predeceased him July 17, 2005. Loving father to John (Carol) and Cindy. Devoted Papa to his grandchildren Jonathan (Kim), Catherine (Geoff) and new great grandson Edward John. Also survived by his nephew John (Margaret) Scratch, nieces Janet Sirrs and Jane Verner (Terry) and their families. He was predeceased by his two brothers Ron (Hazel) and Don, brother-in-law Fred (Maude) Vokes, sisters-in-law Ethel (Homer) Townsend and Ina Vokes. He graduated from the University of Saskatchewan with a B.Sc. In 1943, Pinky graduated from the University of Western Ontario in medicine. During 1944-45, he served overseas with the Royal Hamilton Light Infantry during WWII. He was a Medical Officer at the Regimental Aid Posts in Holland and Germany. After completing his residency in Internal Medicine he came to Stratford in 1950. Pinky was the first specialist in Internal Medicine in Perth and Huron Counties. Dr. Scratch practiced in Stratford until his retirement in 1986. In 1982 he received the Glenn Sawyer Service Award of the Ontario Medical Association. In retirement he read ECG’s for 10 years. Friends and relatives may call at the W.G. Young Funeral Home, 430 Huron Street, Stratford on Friday, April 10, from 6-8 p.m. A Celebration of his life will take place at the funeral home on Saturday, April 11 at 2 p.m. with a reception to follow.
