Antonius Cornelius Boersen, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family in the evening hours of April 22, one day after his 80th birthday. Tony was born in Stouteburg, Holland April 21, 1935, son of the late Ysbrand and Adrianna (Herder) Boersen. He emigrated to Canada in 1951 along with his parents and his 11 brothers and sisters, settling in the Stratford area. Tony’s first career was with the Ford Motor Company in Oakville after many jobs in construction. He soon left to pursue his love for farming, settling on a chicken farm in Caledon East. In 1976 he moved back to the Stratford area where he farmed with his family. Tony was a family man with a tough exterior, but inside was a soft gentle man. He loved joking, pushing the limits and winking right up to the end. That was his way. He will be missed, Beloved husband of Ann (Gansevles) whom he married November 5, 1960. Together they raised 5 children; Jim, Carolyn (Jeff), Sandra, David, Robert (Julie). Grandfather of Nicole Leite, Jeremy Leite, Eric, Kyle, Andrew and Lukas Boersen, Megan and Cooper Moorehead. He is the loving brother of the late Dora Olshoorn (Adrian), Anne Bokkers (Pete), Betty and the late Andy Gras, John (Judy), Ted and the late Martina Boersen, Bert (Liz), Jerry (Renalda), Henk (Emma), Joan and the late Peter Oud, Johan (Viola), Alida Vlasman (Joe). Brother-in-law of the late Christina and Harry Dewetering, Gerda Dewetering (Leo), Mary VanHezewyck (Al), the late John Gansevles (Bertha), Casey Gansevles (Irene), the late Henk Gansevles (Ine), Betsie Crowley (Frank). Also surviving are many cousins, nieces and nephews and their families. Tony was also predeceased by a grandson Jacob and his mother-in-law and father-in-law Johanna and Case Gansevles. Friends and relatives may call at the W.G. Young Funeral Home, 430 Huron Street, Stratford on Sunday, April 26, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. (Parish Prayers at 1:45 p.m.) The funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, 96 Huron Street, Stratford on Monday at 11:00 a.m. Father David Butler – Celebrant. Interment at Avondale Cemetery.
