Doris Ethel Bowland, age 90, passed away at Stratford General Hospital on Tuesday, May 19, 2015. Born in Hamilton, daughter of the late Joseph and Alice Palmer. Best friend and true love of 69 years to Ross Bowland. Loving mother of Marnie (David) Cheyne, Mark Bowland and Kelly (Jeff) Poickuk. Proud grandmother to Michaela, Rory, Devon, Robyn, Ilia, Lee and great grandmother to Sadie, Remy, Sebastian (Baz) and Sammy. Doris was generous with her time volunteering at the Stratford Hospital Auxiliary. She was a member of the K-40 and enjoyed many friendships there. Woodworking was her passion, building fine pieces of furniture. She was also a talented watercolourist. Her greatest pleasure came from spending summers with family at the Bowland camp on Cranberry Island in Oliphant. Doris is survived by her sister Grace Truman and many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents Doris was predeceased by her siblings and their spouses; Violet and Tony Campbell, Alice and Ross Lang, Winston and Ann Palmer also brothers-in-law George Truman, Albert and Ruth Bowland. Friends and relatives are invited to call at the W. G. Young Funeral Home, 430 Huron Street, Stratford on Saturday, May 23, 2015 from 2:00 p.m. until the time of the funeral service at 3:00p.m. As expressions of sympathy memorial donations may be made to the Stratford General Hospital Ladies Auxiliary through the funeral home.
