Genowefa (Gina) Jagiellicz, December 12, 1924 in Smolarzyny, Poland to November 1, 2015 in Stratford, Ontario; Peacefully on All Saints Day, in the loving care of her family and dear friends at Spruce Lodge, Gina left on the final journey of her life. Her life was shaped by the events of war and resettlement. For over 15 years, after a dire knock on her family door in February 1940, she had no home of her own. She endured untold hardships through forced journeys from the frozen forests of the Soviet North, to the south-central plains of Africa, to displaced persons (DP) camps in England. Finally in 1952 she found a new home in Canada. Here she was able to use her many talents to be a true home “maker” for her familyher husband (Walter), her two daughters (Ludmila Jagiellicz and Alice O’Connor), and all the grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins. Gina left us on the verge of her 91st year, having outlived her husband, sister and two brothers. Her daughters, their spouses (Doug and Shane), and her grandchildren (Colin and David) miss herour home maker, hard-working mom, and a strong and very good woman.
Gina will lay in rest in Holy Cross Cemetery in Thornhill, Ontario. Expressions of sympathy and donations to the Spruce Lodge Foundation Legacy Fund may be made through the W.G. Young Funeral Home, 519-271-7411.
