Donald Edgar Kane in his 90th year of Stratford passed away peacefully at the Stratford General Hospital on Monday, February 15, 2016. Born in Stratford, son of the late Edward and Annie (Jones) Kane. Beloved husband of the late Joyce (Marsden), who predeceased him on April 20, 2013, with whom he celebrated 65 years of marriage. Loving father of Marianne Schenk (Bruce) and Rosemary Cleaveley (Darcy). Cherished grandfather of Melissa (Stephen), Amy, David, and Sherry (Jason). Great grandfather of Asher, Abby and Hannah. Don will be remembered by cousins, nieces and a nephew. Special friend of Doris and Leslie Belland, Sue and Tim Cooley, Gary and Harriet Alcock and Tom MacArthur. Predeceased by brother Earl Kane (Ilene) and sister Margaret Southgate. Don attended St. Josephs School and the Stratford Collegiate Vocational Institute. After leaving school, he worked for the Stratford News Company. In October 1943, he enlisted at London in the Tanks Corps and later served overseas. Don worked in the CNR shop for several years. He then began employment at the Stratford Post Office and retired in 1985. Don donated much of his time and energy volunteering at the Stratford YMCA and was a member of St. Pauls Anglican Church. He was also a Legion member for over 55 years. Don spent his summers in Bayfield with a passion for golfing (he had a hole-in-one), swimming, fishing, playing horseshoes and socializing with friends. Other sports that he was involved with included volleyball, bowling and curling. He also took great pleasure in beating his son-in-law Bruce at a game of cribbage. (Don liked to WIN!) Dons love of life and positive outlook touched the lives of everyone he came into contact with. He always left people better than he found them, leaving an everlasting impression. A special Thank You to all that were involved in his care at the Stratford General Hospital. Family and friends may call at the W.G.
