Ilse Gerda Ratz, (born September 15, 1935) of RR# 2 Barrie and formerly of Stratford passed away peacefully at her residence on March 2, 2016. Ilse is survived by her husband Eddy Pattyn. Loving mother of Paul Ratz, Susan Ratz (Trevor Exner), Elizabeth Boyd, Andrea Brymer. Grandmother of Carolyn Lee (Joel), Lori Szymanski (Tomas), Joe Fitzgerald, Katie Nelder (Mike). Great grandmother of Grace, Parker, Morgan, Benji, Brody and Carter. Dear sister of Peter Wiedemann (Elizabeth) and Willy Wiedemann. Also survived by a sister-in-law Phyllis Mathieson (Frank) and several nieces and nephews. Ilse was predeceased by her first husband Laverne Ratz July 9, 1989, by a sister Christina Viani and by a sister-in-law Victoria Wiedemann. She was many things in her lifetime; from banker to hotelier, and lastly to farmer. She loved her life with Ed on the farm. In all things she was the epitome of grace, charm and class. She was a talented seamstress, a gifted artist and a wonderful cook. She enjoyed a rousing game of scrabble and late night chats over a good cup of tea. A great story-teller, she had a sharp wit and quirky sense of humour. She will be fondly remembered and sadly missed by all. Friends and relatives may call at the W.G. Young Funeral Home, 430 Huron Street, Stratford on Monday, March 7, from 11 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 1 p.m. Graveside service following immediately after. Pastor Hugh Rutledge will officiate. Interment at Avondale Cemetery. As expressions of sympathy, memorial donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation through the funeral home. 519.271.7411 www.wgyoungfuneralhome.com
