Geraldene Merkel (Heinbuch), age 79, of Stratford passed away peacefully at home surrounded by the love of her family and friends on May 23, 2016. She was born in Stratford on July 12, 1936, daughter of the late Frederick and Eleanor Heinbuch. Beloved wife of the late Arnold Merkel who predeceased her on December 27, 2014. Loving mother of Heidi Di Diomete (Robert), Tim Merkel, Trina O’Rourke (David), and Marnie Merkel. Grandmother of Devin, Haley, Nolan and Kiera Di Diomete, Breanna, Brodie, Gibson and Maxwell Merkel. Great Grandmother of Jaxen Merkel. Dear sister of Olive Flick (Bill), Marie Levesque (Maurice), BettyAnne Culver and sister-in-law of Harold Hurley. Also survived by sister-in-law Margaret Merkel and Irene Merkel. Beside her husband and parents she was predeceased by a brother Kenneth in infancy, sisters Eileen Stock (Joe) and Doreen Hurley, and members of her husband’s family, Philip Merkel, Anna Merkel, Rose Merkel, Bill Merkel and Walter Merkel in infancy. She was the fifth born of six daughters into a family well known for their love of sports and in particular their involvement on the Kroehlers softball team. She was dedicated to her family first and spent many years working as a secretary for the Huron-Perth Catholic District School Board. Gerry was a woman of great faith and has been a long time member of St Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church as well as a lifetime member of the CWL. She loved to spend time with her family and friends and cherished the special moments spent with her grand children. Dad was the love of her life and she has missed him dearly, they are together again. She will be missed, never forgotten and forever in our hearts. Family and friends may call at the W.G. Young Funeral Home, 430 Huron Street, Stratford on Friday, May 27 from 4-6 p.m. and 7-9 p.m., Parish prayers at 6:45 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, May 28 at St. Josephs Roman Catholic Church, 96 Huron Street, Stratford at 11 a.m. Rev. Fr. Dick Bester Celebrant. A private family interment will follow in Avondale Cemetery.
