It is with heavy hearts the family of Brian James Shackleton are saying good-bye. He passed away with his loving wife and family by his side, on Friday, June 17, 2016. Brian was born in Stratford on February 17, 1961 son of Connie Shackleton and the late Jim Shackleton (April 30, 2009). Brian was a proud father and grandfather and dearly cherished the time he spent with his grandchildren, Cohen and June Bernard and Lily Rose Shackleton. After graduating from Stratford Central, he started working at Stratford Memorials where he worked alongside his grandfather Bert Pretty and his father Jim Shackleton. In 1979, Brian became a partner in the business with his Dad. After working with his Dad for 30 years, he became the sole owner. Brian was a proud and successful man who enjoyed working with people and was a certified memorialist. Brian accomplished many things in his short life. As a young boy, he played many sports. He was a goalie on the first lacrosse team in Stratford, played all-star hockey and fastball and played softball for the Stratford Memorials. As an adult, Brian coached and sponsored Stratford Memorials Softball. He was well known in the community, having served on the executive of the Stratford Cullitons Hockey Team, and was President for four years. He was a member and past president of the Optimists Club of Stratford and organized the first Fishing Derby held annually at the Avon River. Brian loved fishing and felt every child should have a chance to catch a fish. He was a Director and President of the Ontario Monument Builders Association of North America. A member of the Stratford Masonic Lodge #332 AF&AM, and a member of the Avon Shrine Club for London Mocha Temple. Brian was the type of man that if you encountered a problem or needed advice he was always willing and took time to help. Left to mourn his passing is his mom Connie Shackleton, his loving wife Bonnie (Yungblut) (Bernard), his children Eli and Lynann Bernard (their children Cohen and June), Andrew Bernard, Ben and Amy Shackleton (their daughter Lily Rose), Mark Shackleton and Alexa Mackenzie, Brooke Shackleton and Kris Mitchell.
