Madeleine Maria Vanaverbeke, nee Vanslembrouck, age 96, passed away peacefully at Spruce Lodge. Born in Belgium, daughter of the late Cyriel Vanslembrouck and Stephanie Bossy. In 1945, she married Willy Jozef Vanaverbeke and the couple came to Canada in 1950. They farmed at Lot 40, Concession 3 and 4 of North Easthope Township and retired to Stratford in 1973. She was a faithful member of St. Josephs Roman Catholic Church and an active member of the Catholic Womens League for many years. Surviving are her daughter Rita Ann Quintana, Ritas husband Victor and her granddaughters Stephanie and Jessica, all of McKinney, Texas. Also surviving is her sister Hilda of Kortemark, Belgium. Madeleine was predeceased by infant daughters Erna and Maria, as well as her brother Alouis and sisters Margriet, Julia and Rachel. Madeleine was fond of gardening, crocheting playing cards and putting smiles on peoples faces. Family and friends may call at the W.G. Young Funeral Home, 430 Huron St., Stratford on Friday, July 29 from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Parish prayers will be said at 1:45 p.m. Mass of Christian burial will take place on Saturday, July 30 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Josephs Roman Catholic Church, 96 Huron Street, Stratford. Interment to follow in Avondale Cemetery.
