George Kennedy Barr, age 83, of Stratford passed away peacefully at the Stratford General Hospital on August 24, 2016. George was born in Toronto, September 30, 1932, son of the late Robert and Jeanne (McEwen) Barr. Beloved husband for 55 years of Sylvia (Badgley). Loving father of Leslie (Christopher), Robert (Danielle). Step grandfather of Darien (Ryan) and soon a to be great grandfather. Also survived by his brother Robert Barr. Other than his parents he was predeceased by sisters Helen (Nellie) Peat, Jane Pike and Margaret Alter. George was in the entertainment business and sang professionally for several years. He worked at CFCH Radio in North Bay, was Vice President of Sales for CFRB Radio in Toronto for 21 years, General Manager of CJCS Stratford for 12 years, retiring in October of 1992 at the age of 60. George and Sylvia spent their winters in Florida and Vancouver. He was a member of the Rotary Club of Stratford, was President of the Chamber of Commerce and had been an active member of Central United Church where he served on church council for many years. Young Funeral Home, 430 Huron Street, Stratford on Tuesday, August 30, from 7-9 p.m. and on Wednesday, August 31, from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 11 a.m. with a reception to follow. Rev. Kathi Urbasik Hindley will officiate.
