Berenice Elizabeth Player (nee Carr) passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 18, 2016. Born in Stratford on October 24, 1921, she was the last surviving child of Walter William Carr and Florence Fanny Katrine Elliott, having been predeceased by Gordon (Audrey), Gertrude (Jim Lawrance), Florence (Walter Gladding), Norman (Rose) and Thomas John. Her marriage to Roy Frank Pearce on June 4, 1943 was short-lived as Roy was killed in action on February 23, 1945 in Italy. On November 29, 1947 she became the bride of Roys friend and neighbour, Clarence William Edward Player, who predeceased her on January 25, 2004. Berenice will be lovingly remembered by the Carr nieces and nephews, Bernie Lawrance, Brenda Wagler (Ken) and Myrt Hearn; Gord, Tom and Guy Carr; Ron Gladding (deceased), Nancy McCallum, Bev Nielson and Vivian Gladding; Lynne, William, Robert and Thomas Carr and their respective children. She is also fondly remembered by her and Roys niece, Pat Gruber, and her daughters Kathy and Jackie. On the Player branch of the family tree, Berenice is survived by a brother-in-law, Jack Player (Juanita), and sisters-in-law, Etta Player and friend Jack Wilson and Dorothy Anderson, as well as several nieces and nephews and their families who hold her dear to their hearts. She was predeceased by Clarences siblings, Muriel, Wilfred, Fred, Earl and Dorothy. Berenice will be remembered for her talents as an artist and a hairdresser, a knitter and crocheter, her culinary art, her keen interest in genealogy, her love of children, family and friends and her never ending enjoyment of music. Not to be forgotten are her budgies and beagles. Friends and family are invited to meet at the W. G. Young Funeral Home, 430 Huron Street, Stratford on Friday, October 21 at 10:00 a.m. for a time of visitation prior to a celebration of a life well lived at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Avondale Cemetery, Stratford. Special thanks are extended to the staff at the former PeopleCare Stratford and the Greenwood Court community for surrounding Berenice with love and comfort during her last few years of life.
