Passed away peacefully at the Stratford General Hospital on June 25, 2017 in his 95 year. Born in Stratford, March 13, 1923. John volunteered to serve his country in World War II and joined the York Carlton Regiment (Red Devils) in London, Ontario on September 7, 1942. He served overseas from March 9, 1943 to November 7, 1945. Fondly remembered by Ruth Bailey of Stratford. Loving father of Christine Wilker, Louise Allard, both of Stratford, Laurie Nightingale and John Vanderlinde of Innisfil, Jamie Bailey and Trudie Wiseman, Scott Bailey and Cindy Vancoille, Jackie Schneider and husband Rod, all of Stratford. Dear brother of Phyllis Wicks, Keith and Helen Bailey of Stratford, Thelma and Norwood Carter of Port Colborne. Brother-in-law of Pat Bailey of St. Marys, Dolores Peachey of Hamilton and Tony Lazos of Greece. Lovingly remembered by his grandchildren Jo-Anne Wilker, Christopher Gardner, Lee Nightingale (Angela), Tiffany Bailey, Jazzele Walmsley (Chris), Dylan Bailey (Carly), Jesse Bailey (Dora), Tressa Vancoille (Spencer), Taylor Vancoille, Kate Schneider, Luke Schneider, by his great grandchildren Neve, Ava, Clay Josh, Sloan and by several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents Russ and Christina (Bender) Bailey, sisters Marlene Lazos, Bernice Benjamin, son-in-law Robert Wilker, brothers Douglas and Ronald Bailey and brothers-in-law Howard Benjamin and Mac Peachey. John will be remembered for his humour, sharing jokes and a smile with everyone he met. Visitation at the W.G. Young Funeral Home, 430 Huron Street, Stratford on Thursday, June 29, from 11 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 12 noon.
