Gerry immigrated to Canada in 1968 and became a very proud Canadian citizen. He worked in various aspects of the Toronto Transit system and then became a driver examiner with the Dept of Transportation.
Moving to Stratford in 1978 Gerry became involved in the energy field and worked for Strassburger Insulation for 15 years. He then formed a business partnership with his friend John Linnerth called Eagle Sealants Inc. marketing energy products, until his retirement.
Gerry was greatly involved in the community. Next to the love of his family he was so proud to be a member and past president of the Stratford and Area Builder’s Association. His motto was “Hire a member first”. Over the years he coached soccer, served on the Group Committee of the Boy Scouts of Canada, and was membership chair at Central united Church. A handshake at church meant a werther candy to enjoy during service. He was known as the candy man by many. Special times for Gerry were spending times with family and friends at his cottage in Southcott Pines. He was a longtime member of the Stratford Badminton and Tennis Clubs and his goal to the end was to get back on the courts.
Visitation at the W.G. Young Funeral Home, 430 Huron Street, Stratford on Thursday, December 28 from 2-4pm and 7-9pm.
