David Eugene Longhurst, age 76, of Stratford, passed away peacefully at Spruce Lodge on Monday, February 12, 2018. Made in Canada at Ridgeway, Welland County, son of the late William and Eleanor (White) Longhurst. Survived by his best friend and true love, Sandra (Dawson) Longhurst of 55 years.  Proud and loving father of Michelle (Marvin) Meyer, Wendy Longhurst (Kevin Neumeister) and Cathi (Gord) Snarey. Much loved grandfather to Morgan (Kenny), Marissa, Adam, Grayson, Olivia and great-grandfather to Haylynn and Kendra.  Dave will be remembered fondly by his Aunt Doreen, the Longhurst & Dawson families and his many nieces and nephews.  Besides his parents, David was predeceased by his two sisters; Betty Longhurst (Joe Whittaker) and Doreen (Gary) Macmillan. A “thank-you” is not enough words for the compassion and profound care the staff of Spruce Lodge have demonstrated over the years with Dave. In keeping with Dave’s wishes, cremation has taken place and no funeral home visitation or service will take place, as he has accepted a position barbering for God.  In Ancient culture, barbers were highly respected individuals; Dave’s barbershop was a public forum for open debates, voicing public concerns, engaging citizens in discussions about contemporary issues. Dave enjoyed the camaraderie with his trade mark scissors’ blades snip-snip, as the comb arranged the customer’s neat presentable appearance.  As expressions of sympathy, memorial donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Canadian Diabetes Association through the W.G.
