Our Dad and Grampie, Harold William Frier passed away peacefully after a short illness on June 4, 2018 at Grand River Hospital, Kitchener. Devoted husband to Eliza (Lyle MacDonald predeceased in 2010) for 60 years. Loving father to Paulette and Jim Micak, Karen and Carl Vance. Proud grandpa to Andrew, Katie, Jesse (Sarah Hankins), Sarah (David Cotton), Jeffery and Eric. Special great -papa GG to Isabella and Penelope.

Born on April 5, 1928 in Sebringville, Ontario to William Frier and Hattie Krueger, a special stepson to the late August Schaller and nephew to the late Paul Kowalski. He is survived by his siblings Greta (Predeceased John) Thompkins, Helen (Willi) Bauer, Fred (Arlene) Schaller as well as 17 nieces and nephews.

He was a member of Immaculate Conception/St. Joseph Parish since 1950 and former member of the Knights of Columbus. Formerly employed by the C.N.R. Shops in Stratford and London and retired from Fram Canada after 30 years. Harold attended Radio Repair College in Toronto and held a Business Diploma from Conestoga College through night school.

He will be missed for his morning phone calls to family just to say ‘Hello”, his kind nature and constant smile. He loved listening to music, reading (especially Stuart McLean) and sitting in his lawn chair watching the world go by. He took pride in his lack of grey hair and youthful complexion believing that his 90th birthday party on April 1 was an April Fool’s Joke.  He was an active member of the Parkinson Society in Stratford and participated in their many activities.  After leaving Stratford, where he lived most of his life, he moved to Waterloo where he tapped into his creative side of painting, drawing and singing. In his home, the Village of University Gates in Waterloo he enjoyed the religious, social, physical activities and visits by dog Apollo.

The family would like to thank the helpful neighbours of McFarlane Street, especially Shirley and Wray Harris, the Stratford Parkinson Society, the team of Dr. Mandar Jog at London’s University Hospital and the wonderful staff at the Village of University Gates (Wright Neighbourhood)  for their love and support .
