Marie-Claire (Mary) De Brabandere, of Stratford, passed away peacefully with family at her side at Cedarcroft Place on July 11, 2018 at the age of 96.

Mary was born in Beveren Leie, Belgium on May 10, 1922, daughter of the late Robert De Brabandere and Elise Hasaert.  Loving sister of Jules, Mariette (Joseph Delesie), John (Agnes Olivier), Jules (Margaret Van Quathem), Jacqueline (Jules Van Houtte), Rosanne (Raphael Laperre), Monique (Louis Feryn). She is survived by sister Monique Feryn, brother-in-law Raphael Laperre, and many nieces, nephews and their families in both Canada and in Belgium.

Mary immigrated to Canada in 1954. She spent her career working in Toronto, first as a nurse and eventually as a social worker for the Catholic Children’s Aid Society, until her retirement in 1985. Mary’s love of travel took her to places such as Australia, New Zealand, China, Japan, Kenya, Alaska and Europe. Mary was a big fan of the Blue Jays, enjoyed live theatre and gourmet cooking. Mary often made herself and her home available to her numerous nieces and nephews for special getaways in the big city.

Mary’s family would like to thank Dr. Brooks and the wonderful caring staff at Cedarcroft Place.
