Gaston Persoon, age 97, of Stratford and formerly of Delhi, Ontario, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family on Sunday, November 3, 2019 at the Rotary Hospice Stratford Perth. Born in Kemzeke, Belgium, son of the late Alfons and Anna Maria (Mariman) Persoon. Survived by his true love and best friend, Anna (Vermeiren) Persoon, married for 70 years. Loving father of Rita (Percy) Lauwaert and grandfather of Nicole (Gezahgn) Wordofa, Michael (Leigh) Lauwaert and great- grandfather (affectionately known as pepe) of Aaron Wordofa, Braden Lauwaert, Ryan Lauwaert and Linden Lauwaert. Gaston is survived by his siblings: Simonne Persoon, Marcel Persoon, Val Persoon, and his four nieces. Gaston and Anna immigrated to Canada in 1968, and farmed for many years in the Delhi area. In 2017, they moved to Stratford to be closer to family. He had a love for archery, hunting, bowling, cards, cycling, golf and travelling the globe with Anna by his side. Besides his parents, Gaston was predeceased by his sister Angèle Persoon and his brother Alfons Persoon. Cremation has taken place; a Memorial Mass celebrating Gaston’s life will take place on Wednesday, November 20th at Our Lady Queen of Martyrs Catholic Church, 110 Adams Avenue, Delhi, ON at 11 a.m. As expressions of sympathy, memorial donations may be made to the Rotary Hospice Stratford Perth through the W.G.
