Donald “Don” William Heimrich, age 95, passed away peacefully at Spruce Lodge on October 20, 2020 surrounded by his family.
He is predeceased by his beloved wife, Ann of 63 years. Loving father of Jamie, Joan Flanagan (Mark), and Carol Cooley (Boyd). Cherished Grandfather to Amanda Kitchen (Bill) and Shawn and Great Grandfather to Jack and Everett. Fondly remembered by his older brother Ted (Marilyn) and sister-in-law Eleanor Lucas. Uncle Don to many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his brother Carl, great-grandson, Daniel, and his brothers-in-law Ivan Lucas and Jack McKercher and his wife Betty.
Born and raised in Stratford, Don was the son of Fred and Margaret (Easson) Heimrich. A veteran of WWII Don served the Royal Canadian Navy as a signalman on the HMCS Levis patrolling the North Atlantic.
After the War, he moved to Saskatoon to work in the office at the Swift Canadian Company. He had many fond memories of his time in Saskatoon. Later, Don returned to Stratford to work along side his father at Heimrich Draperies. Don continued the family business with his wife Ann until their retirement.
Family was his world. An incredibly devoted husband of 63 years, he and Ann were inseparable. Together they raised a family, ran a small business and enjoyed retirement at their cottage. An expert handyman, Don loved working with tools and always had a project on the go. His greatest achievement was building the family cottage on Lake Huron. He had a passion for sailing, antiques, and baseball. A lifelong fan of the Chicago Cubs, he liked rooting for an underdog. Don loved telling stories. He was a kind, and modest man who would help anyone. People were drawn to his good nature and he could always bring a smile to your face.
The family would like to thank the staff at Cedarcroft and Spruce Lodge for their kind and compassionate care. With special thanks to Spruce Lodge for their warm welcome and support for Don and his family through the exceptional circumstances of the past few months.
