Bruce Gibson (Jan.11th, 1944 – Jan.16th, 2021)
It is with heavy hearts and incredible memories that we announce the passing of our wonderful husband, father and friend, Bruce Gibson. On Sat. Jan.16th, 2021, Bruce lost his long battle with Alzheimer’s.
He leaves behind the love of his life, Judy (54 years married), his children, Jodi (John McConnell) and Lori (Dale Thomas) and his 3 beautiful granddaughters, Edison, Hannah and Heidi. He is also survived by his sister-in-law Hildegard Gibson (Bob Gibson, deceased) and his brother-in-law Bill Douglas (Marion Douglas, deceased).
Born Jan.11th, 1944, Bruce has been a lifelong resident of Stratford. He began working at Sinclair Pharmacy in his mid teens as a delivery boy, followed by a few years working at the Royal Bank before joining the Stratford Police Force for the following 10 years. His next career was in Real Estate where he really enjoyed his time in partnership with A/B Realty. His passion for vehicles led him to his next career move when he opened Gibson’s Car Care Business until his retirement in the nineties, yet he still continued to do appraisals on classic cars. Bruce took great pride in a building downtown that he and Judy owned for over 50 years. He enjoyed the business owners and the many wonderful friends he met along the way. He will always be remembered as a compassionate and caring landlord.
He spent 10 years on Stratford City Council trying his best to deliver great service to his community, and was an active member of Stratford Kinsmen and K-40 for many years.
Anyone who knew Bruce, knew he LOVED his cars! His garage was his meeting place for many friends over the years who shared drinks and stories of anything car related. He loved his home, his pool and yard, all manicured perfectly, just how he liked it! Most importantly, his door was always open to everyone. Bruce was not a world traveller, but he never missed a year taking his girls to Florida for a visit to Disney World. What wonderful memories.
He will be dearly missed by all of his amazing friends who have stood by him throughout his battle with Alzheimer’s. He has spent the last 20 months at Spruce Lodge and we can’t thank the staff in cottage B enough for the unconditional love and support they have given throughout that time. Thank you to his friends in the Wednesday coffee group, The Club group, Dan Otten, Paul Comfort and Joyce Skinner for your visits and unbelievable support. Also to his friends Marnie and Stan Hazle, Jane and Dave Baetz, Marilyn and Jon Thornton, and Nora and Ted Evans. You were always there when needed. A special thank you to Shirley and Alex Jackson. Alex, he will always be your best “Buddy.”
We will be having a celebration of Life for Bruce in the coming months when it is safer to do so. In lieu of flowers, donations in Bruce’s memory can be made to The Alzheimer Society of Perth or the Spruce Lodge Activities Department through the W.G. Young Funeral Home, 430 Huron Street, Stratford. 519.271.7411 www.wgyoungfuneralhome.com
