John Bruce Aitcheson, age 88, of Stratford, formerly of Shakespeare and Downie Township, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 4, 2021 at Rotary Hospice Stratford Perth. Born in Downie Township, son of the late Maxwell and Nora (Parrot) Aitcheson. Much loved husband of Lois (McKone) Aitcheson. Proud father of Marg (Brad) Stone, Mary (Bruce) Edwards, Cam (Judy) Aitcheson and Gord (Jodie) Aitcheson and he will be fondly remembered by Lois’s children Murray (Sue) Waymouth, Mark (Judy) Waymouth, Linda Waymouth (John Haggarty) and David (Kate) Waymouth. Bruce was grandfather to 11 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. Bruce is survived by his siblings Keith (Donna) Aitcheson and Maxine (Reid) Coulthard. Bruce was a very active member of both Downie Township and Shakespeare and community. He served as Councillor and Reeve of Downie Township for many years and past president of both Downie Optimist and Shakespeare Optimist clubs. Bruce also was recognized for his help in establishing other optimist Clubs throughout Ontario.  The majority of his life was spent farming in Downie Township and when he retired he drove school bus for a number of years.  The family would like to sincerely thank the staff of Rotary Hospice for the care and compassion given to Bruce. It was very much appreciated. In keeping with Bruce’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a recognition of his life will be announced at a later date. As expressions of sympathy, memorial donations may be made to Rotary Hospice Stratford Perth, the Optimist Club of Downie or the Optimist Club of Shakespeare through the W. G.
