When the war broke out, a 13 year old Stanley was captured by the Germans and taken prisoner to work on a farm in Germany. There, he joined the Polish underground and was designated the code name “Spider”. He worked on the farm for several years before escaping to Italy. He travelled the length of Italy, at times disguised as a monk before joining the British Eight Army. He fought in the tank wars in North Africa then returned to Italy. After the war, he ended up in England. He decided to immigrate to Canada as his homeland was taken over by Russia. Arriving with a suitcase and 10 pounds payment from the army, he met Irene, the love of his life. They built a beautiful life and family together.
