With profound sorrow, we share the news of the passing of Jean Marie Doadt (née MacDonald), who died Tuesday, February 16, 2021, in her 94th year.
Jean was the beloved wife of Gord, her husband of nearly 70 years; a loving and supportive mother to Ed; adored Grandma Doadt of Christine Rideout (Rob), Jamie (Becky Davison), Ben (Michelle), Rob (Robyn Reis) and Lucas (Kara Schneider); and the extremely proud great-grandmother of Julia and Nora.
Jean was predeceased, just two months ago, by her husband Gord; her parents, George and Nellie MacDonald; her brothers, George and Alan; her son Ross; and her daughter-in-law, Nancy.
For most of her working life, Jean worked in several banks and finance companies in downtown Stratford. A meticulous bookkeeper, Jean always balanced her accounts at the end of the day. She took great pride in completing both her own, and Gord’s, income tax returns, something she did until well into her 80s.
A lifelong resident of Stratford, Jean was also a talented needlepoint artist, and her creations adorn the homes of her family. In 1952, Jean and Gord built a house on Devon Street, a house they shared for almost 70 years. But Jean and Gord loved travelling, and Jean enjoyed sharing stories of her trips to Scotland. When Ed and Ross were growing up, Jean always ensured there was a family vacation, either to a cottage on Lake Huron, or to some destination such as Cape Breton, Gettysburg, or Washington DC.
Jean adored being a grandma and great grandma, and her packages of family photos were seldom out of reach, even at the end.
She will be deeply missed by everyone: neighbours, friends, and most of all family.
The family wishes to thank the staff at Greenwood Court, for recently welcoming Jean with open arms.
As per Jean’s wishes, there will be neither funeral nor visitation. A private family interment will take place in Avondale Cemetery. Donations in Jean’s memory may be made to Greenwood Court, or to the Stratford General Hospital Foundation (www.sghfoundation.org), through the W.G Young Funeral Home, 430 Huron Street, Stratford. 519.271.7411. www.wgyoungfuneralhome.com
