Orval Lloyd Thiel, age 78, of Stratford, passed away suddenly at home on February 11, 2021. Born in Stratford, son of the late Lloyd and Annie Thiel. 

Beloved husband for 48 years of Marjorie (Ward). Loving father of Melanie Iza (Reg) and Jeremy Thiel (Jasmine). Grandfather of Ella and Livi Iza, Piers and Everson Thiel. Brother of Laurene Smith (Ron). Brother-in-law of Douglas Ward (Liz), Garry Ward, Marilyn Nichol. Also survived by many nieces and nephews and their families. 

Predeceased by his brother-in-law George Whigham, his father-in-law and mother-in-law Harold and Margaret Ward, his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Floyd Ward (Marjorie), Marion Smith (Moe), Ron Ward (Jackie), Allison Ward and George Nichol. 

Orval worked at Switzer’s for 26 years and later as a security guard for various companies. He was a member of Parkview United Church, Stratford and The Stratford and District Horticultural Society. Orval enjoyed refinishing furniture, and socializing with his friends over coffee, dinner out or while enjoying music in the park. Orval also adored his grandchildren and loved being a part of their activities and celebrations. Orval was a one of a kind jokester. 

A family service will be held at the W.G. Young Funeral Home, 430 Huron Street, Stratford on Tuesday, February 16, at 2 p.m. Those wishing to join the family for the service from their home can do so by using the view livestream button below Orval’s obituary on the funeral home website.
