He will be missed by his grandchildren, Zoë, Sophie, Zak, Saskia, Zayra and Nova. He is survived by his sisters, Sally (Peter) Coutts, Wendy (Allen) Craigie and Kim (Robert) Couvillon as well as his brother-in-laws, Gary (Patricia) Smith, Jim Smith and Steve (Karyn) Smith. He will also be missed by his many nieces, nephews and friends. He is predeceased by his parents, William and Betty Atkinson, father and mother-in-law, Arthur and Eileen Smith and sister and brother-in-law, Susan and Peter Ungaro.

Paul was born in Galt on November 12, 1949, often proudly stating, “As for me, I’m from Galt” (quoting the late Peter Gzowski). Paul and Maureen raised their big family in Milverton for 23 years, later settling in Stratford. He was an East Coaster at heart, travelling there often with his family. Paul was a man with a big personality whose life cannot be summarized in words. Always a salesman, he was very charming and made friends everywhere he went. He was the pillar of his family, a mentor, an encourager, a protector and a man of great faith. Paul was filled with compassion and always cheered for the underdog. He had a great sense of humour and loved to laugh.

He will be greatly missed.

Paul was an advocate for the environment, a lover of animals and a Mountsberg enthusiast. In his memory, we ask that donations be made in his name to the Conservation Halton Foundation through the W.G. Young Funeral Home, 430 Huron Street, Stratford. 519.271.7411 www.wgyoungfuneralhome.com

A celebration of Paul’s life will be held at a later date.

Paul’s favourite words of wisdom in life were “Wherever you are, be there.”
