Martin Brandt
October 24, 1931- May 6, 2021

It’s with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Martin Brandt. A life lived with zeal and determination. Martin was a loving and supportive husband who took great care of his wife Maria Brandt (Paola) for over 58 years. He was always a caring, fair and generous man in so many ways to both his daughters Yvette Claus-Mertens (Marco Claus) and Tara Tyrrell (Brent Tyrrell), and to his grandchildren Tristen Mertens and Skylar Mertens. Martin was born in Bonn Germany in 1931. His loving parents were Johanna Brandt (Koch) and Mathias Brandt. Martin had three sisters. He is survived by his sister Helga Prior (Fritz Prior) and predeceased by his sister Henni Schmitz (Hans Schmitz) and Leni Mueller (Willie Mueller).

Martin came to Canada in 1955 as a carpenter by trade, looking for work. He found employment and in time he eventually met his bride in 1959 and was wed on March 9, 1963. He was a determined man with incredible will power and ingenuity which enabled him to do many tasks that appeared impossible to many. Martin was known in the community for many years as a hardworking, honest, serious, yet comical individual. He always liked to try to test the waters to see how far he could take the joke with his serious face. He owned and operated his business B&G Sulky Shaft Ltd. in Stratford for many decades with his business partner Joe Gummow.  Martin was an amazing carpenter and even after retiring he made stunning pieces either by carving or marquetry. He always enjoyed learning new things, and never stopped trying to learn until the end of his life. Our dear husband and father will be greatly missed. We know he is now sleeping soundly awaiting his wake up call in the new world.

The family would like to thank so very much the kind, compassionate and attentive care that the Heart and Stroke Foundation, Dr. Kurtz, Dr. Thomas and the Palliative Care Outreach team gave. They made this extremely heartbreaking process more bearable for us to endure.

Due to Covid-19 restrictions there will be no visitation or memorial service at this time.
