Marjorie Ann Baillie (nee Litt)

In her 90th year Marjorie passed away peacefully after a brief illness on Saturday August 14, 2021.  Predeceased long ago by her loving husband Donald George.  Beloved mother of Michael (Elizabeth) and Kirk.  Sadly missed by her beloved grandchildren Alison Kelly (Christopher), Andrew, Brooks and Taylor. Marj was born in Goderich and moved to Stratford at three when her father Wes Litt purchased the Windsor Hotel.  She spent her early years there as the family prospered with the tourism boom resulting from the Festival Theatre. Always thankful she later became a long-time supporter.  During this time, she formed lifelong friendships with Margot, Jean, Libby, Edna all no longer with us.  Also ‘still here’ Colleen, Pat, Diane, Bev, Barb, Dorel and Jean.   She became an avid curler and was skip on teams with some of the ladies mentioned above.  Her father raced standardbred horses for over 50 years based out of the farm in Sebringville.  A few were owned by Marj and her mother Nora.  Horses like Black Creek, Frosted Flakes and Rosy Chips won races and contributed to her enjoyment of the sport. In the mid-70s, she moved to Kitchener-Waterloo and continued curling at the KW Granite Club.  She enjoyed being a member of Westmount for 35 years especially bridge and dining with friends, even playing nine holes of golf a few times each season.  By this time, she did pretty much what she wanted, when she wanted.  That included travelling the world – literally.  From virtually the North Pole to the South Pole on one axis and Galapagos Islands and the Seychelles on the other.  Her wit and humour allowed her to get through the bad times and fully enjoy the good times.  She was a favorite of many of the staff at Clair Hills Retirement Residence in Waterloo where with their support she enjoyed her final years.  A private family service will be held at the W. G. Young Funeral, 430 Huron Street, Stratford followed by interment in Avondale Cemetery. Provincial Regulations will be followed. As expressions of sympathy, memorial donations to the Stratford General Hospital or the Heart & Stroke Foundation may be made through the funeral home. 519.271.7411 www.wgyoungfuneralhome.com
