Mrs. Helen Doreen Geary (nee Johnson), age 92, of Stratford, passed away peacefully at Stratford General Hospital on Wednesday, September, 1, 2021. She was the daughter of the late Daniel Macfie Johnson and the former Agnes Muriel Munshaw. Doreen was born in England of Canadian parents and came to Canada in 1940 to her grandparent’s farm in Manitoba then onto Montreal in 1943. In Montreal, Doreen went to Sir George Williams College and worked at the Canada Malting Co., before her marriage to Peter Daniel Geary in 1951 and raised her family there. She retired to Stratford in 1982. Doreen wore many hats over the years. She taught Sunday school, sold Avon, taught nursery school and kindergarten and was very involved in all aspects of St. James Anglican Church in Rosemere, QC. She and dad loved to travel, especially England, Portugal, Spain and Hawaii. She loved family gatherings especially with her 4 grandchildren, auction sales and day trips around Stratford. Over the years Doreen was very active at both St. Paul’s and St. James Anglican Churches, with Telecare, Neighbourly Services , the Stratford General Hospital Auxiliary to name a few. Doreen will be sadly missed by her son Paul Geary (James Hunter), her son-in-law Dan Pehowich, her grandchildren Meghan Sebastianski (Tom), Andrea Geary (Robert Patenaude), Tim Geary (Amanda Darragh) and Leeanne Geary and her great grandchildren Jacob and Madison. Doreen is predeceased by her loving husband of 50 years, Peter Daniel Geary (2001), her loving daughter Enid Deborah Pehowich (2015), and her son Daniel John Geary (2003). Family and friends are invited to Doreen’s memorial service on Wednesday, September 8, 2021 at 10:30 a.m. at St. James Anglican Church, 41 Mornington St, Stratford, ON. Those who wish to attend the service please call or email the funeral home. For those of you who cannot attend, and would like to view the service may do so, by clicking the view live stream. Doreen will be laid to rest with her late husband and son in God’s Holy Acre immediately following the service. A light lunch will be served following the service at the W. G. Young Funeral Home Reception Centre, 430 Huron Street, Stratford, ON. (All co-vid protocols are in effect, masking is mandatory).
