Edmund “Ed” Smitas, age 61, passed away suddenly on Wednesday, October 20, 2021, doing what he loved most, being on the golf course. Born in Burlington, son of the late Leo & Gail (Ozalas) Smitas, brother of Ron (deceased) and brother-in-law to Angie and uncle to Jennifer. Loved uncle of Jodie, Noah and Naomi and father-in-law Donald Smith and he will be remembered by his many cousins. Dearly loved husband of Pam of 35 years. His wonderful life will be cherished forever in the lives of his children Lauren and Christian. He has gone fishing with Ryan (2017).

Ed came to work at Cooper Standard as a Control Systems Engineer and after many years decided to go out on his own. He provided Control System Design & Programming for many companies for more than 20 years. Ed was a highly respected expert in his field and had a reputation for solving difficult technical challenges. Being a consummate engineer “you couldn’t find a better person to work with” was a statement that was expressed by everyone that worked with Ed.

As a legacy, Ed’s innovative designs and programs will continue to control machinery in many industries, many countries spread across 3 continents and continue to do so for many years to come.

A private family service will take place with cremation to follow. A celebration of Ed’s life will be at the Stratford Country Club, Saturday, November 6, 2021, from 1:00-3:30 p.m.
