Eugene Arnold Shantz, age 83, of Stratford and formerly of Ruthven, passed away peacefully at The Rotary Hospice surrounded by family on October 27, 2021.  Born in Stratford on July 8, 1938, son of the late Milton and Ellen (Cahill) Shantz.  Cherished brother-in-law of Mary Lou Shantz, uncle of Sherrill and Jerry Denny, great-uncle of Heather Denny (Craig) and Brett Denny (Gretta) and uncle of Stephen Shantz.  Father of Jeffrey Shantz and grandfather of Saoirse and Molly.  Brother of Valerie Campbell, Father Russell Shantz, Elaine Lewicki and Carole McGuire (Ken), brother-in-law of Fran Shantz and uncle to many nieces and nephews.  Predeceased by brothers Marvin, Morley, Bruce and Wayne, sisters Madeline Lee, Miriam DeBeck, Doris Devlin, Elva and Zita Shantz and brothers-in-law and sister-in-law Jeanne Shantz, Roy Lee, Pete DeBeck, Jack Devlin, Louis Campbell and Joe Lewicki.  Genie (Wiener) worked at the Chrysler Assembly Plant in Windsor from which he retired in 1996.  He was an avid sports fan and travelled extensively in his retirement with his family.  In keeping with Genie’s wishes, cremation will take place with interment at Avondale Cemetery.  The family wishes to thank the staff at The Rotary Hospice for their exceptional and compassionate care.
