It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Regena Whaling, age 86, of Stratford; surrounded by her loving family on Friday, October 1, 2021, at Greenwood Court.

Born in Seaforth, daughter of the late Frank and Annie (Dalton) Bowman. Survived by her true love and best friend of 61 years William James Whaling.

Proud and loving mother of Jill (Dave) Walker, the best grandmother to Ben Walker. Regena is survived by her siblings Eleanor Maloney, Cleo (George) Smith and her brother-in-law Frank Whaling and many nieces and nephews. Regena was predeceased by her son Jeremy Whaling, her brothers-in-law Ray Maloney and Joe Whaling and a sister -in-law Rose Whaling.

Jean was a teacher who, at the age of 18, started her career teaching in a one room schoolhouse in Tuckersmith ON. From there she moved to and taught in London and finally upon marrying Jim she started teaching in the Catholic School Board in Stratford. Upon retirement she worked for the Red Cross, volunteered at House of Blessing and with Meals on Wheels. She LOVED her time at ‘the cottage’ and being in the company of family and her many dear friends. She had a soft spot for dogs, music, the Leafs, CNN, the Blue Jays, travel and golfing.

She was a teacher to the very end, teaching her family big lessons about the beauty and importance of kindness, gratitude, humour and acceptance.

She was a beautiful woman inside and out and will be missed by all who were lucky enough to have spent time with her.

A HUGE thank you to all those who extended love and support over the last several years. Each act of kindness and compassion from friends, family & the entire remarkable staff of Greenwood Court – made a big and meaningful difference for which Regena’s family will be forever grateful.
