With profound sadness, we announce the sudden passing of Andrew Ernest Christian Skowby on November 1, 2021 at his home in Nova Scotia, due to cardiac arrest. Andrew was a wonderful husband, son, brother, uncle and friend. He is survived by his wife Marlies, his parents Al & Lorraine Skowby, his sister and brother-in-law, Trish & Clarke Singer and their children, Paige and Owen. He also leaves behind Marlies’ family including her parents, Nel & Hans van Sloten and her siblings, Diana & Marko and Diederick & Renate and their children, all of the Netherlands. Andrew attended Falstaff, King Lear and Central Secondary Schools (well…sort of!). Andrew, fondly referred to as “Butch”, packed a lot into his 47 short years of life. Upon acquiring his Electrician’s Licence in Ontario, he moved to Alberta where he met and married the love of his life, Marlies. While there, he obtained his Power Lineman certification and worked for Fortis Hydro. In 2013, Andrew was the humble recipient of Alberta’s Hero of the Flood Award for his heroic efforts. Andrew & Marlies moved to Grand Cayman where he worked for the Caribbean Utilities Company (CUC), which included doing restoration work on nearby islands. In July 2020, they relocated to Nova Scotia and started their dream of restoring an abandoned historical home. Andrew worked for K-Line doing power restoration and disaster relief in Canada and the USA. Despite his “tough guy” persona, Andrew was an incredibly selfless and kind person who always responded to the needs of others. He had a soft spot for animals, which led him to volunteer at the Humane Society and even foster puppies. He will be missed by his dogs, J.J. & Luna. Andrew was a fiercely loyal friend who valued his friendships. His favourite saying was, “It is what it is!” and as we mourn Andrew’s death, we celebrate his love of life and adventuresome spirit. He was truly one of a kind! A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, November 14, 2021 from 2:00 to 4:00 pm. at the W.G.
