Walter Albert Bryant, age 95, of Stratford, Ontario passed away peacefully on November 22, 2021.
Walter was born in 1926 in St. Helens, England, the only child of Albert and Hilda Bryant.
He excelled scholastically and athletically and at the age of 14 entered the workforce as an aircraft sheet metal apprentice working at Burtonwood Aerodrome supporting both the British and American Air Force efforts during World War II. In 1946, Walter enlisted in the British Royal Airforce where he worked as an Aircraftsman First Class until 1949.
In 1948, Walter married the love of his life, Gladys Mort of Newton-le-Willows. They were married for 64 years until Gladys passed in 2012. In 1952 they departed England for new opportunities in Canada. Gladys and Walter settled in Toronto and embarked on their new life, later welcoming two sons Stephen and Philip.
During his career, Walter worked for several companies in different industries. His strong work ethic, technical and problem-solving abilities found their calling when Walter entered the boiler manufacturing industry working as Service Manager for both Cleaver Brooks and Viessmann Manufacturing. As Walter’s career progressed the family relocated from Toronto to Winnipeg, Guelph and ultimately Stratford which has been Walter’s home for the last 52 years.
Walter enjoyed spending family time with his beloved wife Gladys and sons Stephen and Philip. His life was further enhanced by the love he shared for his daughters-in-law Diane (Steve) and Christine (Phil), his grandchildren Katelyn & husband AJ, Mathew, Drew, and Kale, and his great grandchildren Evelyn and Samuel. Nothing brought a smile to Walter’s face quicker than pictures of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Our family is so appreciative of the love, support, generosity, and guidance that Dad/Poppa has provided over the years. His hard work and determination have given us the opportunity to realize our dreams.
Many thanks to the staff at Greenwood Court who loved and cared for Walter over the last several years. Words can’t begin to express our appreciation for your dedication especially with the challenges of a pandemic. Thanks also to Brenda and her companion dogs for making a difference in Walter’s life. Also, a sincere thank you to the amazing team at Stratford General Hospital for the care and comfort you provided to Walter in his final days and to the team at Ritz Lutheran Villa who cared for Walter prior to his stay at Greenwood Court.
While he will be sorely missed, we are thankful for our time together and comforted, knowing that his spirit will live on in our memories.
In keeping with Dad’s wishes, we will celebrate his life with a private family service.
