Lammert “Bert” Tiemens, age 86, of Stratford, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, February 7, 2022, surrounded by his loving family at Victoria Hospital. Born in Grypskerk, Gronigen, The Netherlands, the son of the late Geert and Martje (Huisman) Tiemens. Bert served a short term in the military and immigrated to Canada in 1956.  Shortly after his arrival, he met the love of his life, Nellie whom he married in 1958. Bert was an active lifelong member of the Stratford Christian Reformed Church.  He was employed for several years at Fischer Bearings and a volunteer for various community groups which he continued well beyond his retirement. Bert spent his spare time doing things he enjoyed most such as walking and if you met him, you may not have known his name, but you would always remember his warm smile and hearty hello.  Other favourite activities included fishing, gardening and carving.  Bert is survived by his loving wife and best friend of 64 years, Nellie (Beimers) Tiemens. Proud father of George (Lorie) Tiemens, Grace (Terry) Cook, Benita (Shane) Ruby and Patrick (Lori) Tiemens. Loving grandfather of 10 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. He is survived by his siblings Saakje (Meindert)Pel, Frances Hof, Sjoukje Alserda, Grietje Bakker, Oeje (Jitske) Tiemens and his brother-in-law John (Anne) Beimers, his sister-in-law Wendy Smidts and along with his many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Bert was predeceased by his mother and father-in-law Hendrik and Griet (Lautenbach) Beimers, his sister and her husband Geertje (Jan) Post, brothers-in-law Henk Hof, Klaas Alserda, Lenus Bakker, Ray Smidts and his sister-in-law Alice Nauta (Les). The family would like to sincerely thank all the wonderful doctors and staff at Stratford General Hospital and Victoria Hospital (London) for all the wonderful care and compassion given to Bert, your thoughtfulness is truly appreciated. Family and friends are invited to the Christian Reformed Church, 190 Athlone Crescent, Stratford on Monday, February 14, 2022 from 10 -12 until the time of the funeral service at 12:30. Interment to follow in Avondale Cemetery. As expressions of sympathy, memorial donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Stratford Christian Reformed Church through the W. G.
