Timothy David Leaney, age 54, of Stratford passed away peacefully at Rotary Hospice on April 23, 2022. Timothy was born at home – a thatched cottage in Netheravon, Wiltshire, England, the son of Dr. David and Jennifer Leaney.

Loving husband of Jennifer Otter-Leaney for seventeen years. Beloved younger brother of Rachel Leaney (John Zupancic); brother-in-law of Louise Parkes (Jeff), David Otter (Jilaine), Sandra Otter (Tim Phillips). Uncle to Adam, Hannah, Cameron (Shaina), Zachary, Brittany, Jordan (Roxy) and Carley (Willem); son-in-law to Margaret Norris; nephew and godson of Clive Arding (Mary).

Fond acquaintances and members of the Concert Band at Stratford Central Secondary School, Tim and Jennifer re-connected after completing University, on a memorable VIA rail trip from Toronto to Stratford for Easter, in April 1999. They were married on July 30, 2005 in the back garden of the Leaney home in Stratford.

After receiving a Bachelor of Arts Degree in History at the University of Toronto (Victoria College) in 1991, Tim worked in hospitality and became a certified Sommelier. His endless curiosity, good humour, kindness, love of children and vast knowledge led him to become a Primary School teacher, after completing his Bachelor of Education degree at U of T / OISE in 2007. Tim was a talented, fun, insightful and nurturing J-K, Kindergarten and Grade one teacher at Allenby Public School in Toronto for more than ten years. He particularly loved sharing his passion for music and the natural environment in his work with children.

In addition to being a teacher, Tim was a skilled musician (guitar and drums), beautiful singer, avid gardener and bird lover, voracious reader, talented home chef and bread maker, Premiere League football fan, comedian, historian, geographer, weather man, four season cyclist, meticulous model builder, sailing instructor, and above all, a devoted and loving husband, son, brother, uncle, and cat dad.

Following a long-held dream, Tim and Jennifer returned to live in Stratford in July 2018, to be closer to family, rekindle friendships and savor the many joys of life in this small city. Tim loved volunteering in the kitchen at The Local and started as a volunteer at the Stratford General Hospital before the pandemic began. Tim’s creativity, wacky sense of humour, and infectious laugh will live on in our memories forever.

Tim’s family would like to express heartfelt thanks to Dr. Laurel Moore, Stratford General Hospital, Care Partners, and the wonderful caregivers at Rotary Hospice Stratford Perth for their abundant kindness and excellent care.

A private service will take place with interment at Avondale Cemetery.
