It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother Filomena Vito.  Filomena passed away peacefully on April 17th, 2022. It seemed fitting that the end of her earthly journey occurred on Easter Sunday when she was surrounded by family in her favorite place, her home.

She was a faithful woman who loved the Lord and her family with passion and devotion.  We are grateful that she is now reunited in heaven with the love of her life, Francesco Vito, who passed away December 29, 1991.

Filomena was born in the small town of Carpanzano, Italy on March 11th, 1932.  Filomena and Francesco were married on March 27th, 1954 and moved to Canada with hope and youthful enthusiasm later that same year.  They settled in Stratford and their goodness and warmth quickly transformed each of the two neighborhoods in which they subsequently resided. They were quick to offer a lending hand and a warm greeting to neighbors and friends alike.

Filomena was the gracious and benevolent mother to four children: Nick, Daniele, Dino and Teresa.  She held her three daughters-in-law and son-in-law in high regard and loved them as her own: Kathryn, Wendy, Nina and Jeremy.  Filomena took tremendous delight in each of her 11 grandchildren: Caitlin (Jamie), Rachel (James), and Francesco Vito; Ashley and Faith Vito; Joshua and Sophia Vito; and Owen, Jacob, Eli and Francesca Harris.

She will always be fondly remembered for her uniquely diverse characteristics of extraordinary generosity, loyalty, empathy, warm hospitality, tenacity, and elegance. Her steadfast faithfulness and comfortable contentment left a legacy for all of those who were graced by her presence.

Her enjoyment of summer beachdays, preparation of innumerable lavish family dinners, unusual but heartwarming love for grocery shopping, and remarkable care for her family and home has left us all with amazing memories of our times together. We were blessed to enjoy the extravagances of vacations and the simplicity of morning coffee chats in a kitchen that we will never forget.

Her meticulous attention to detail, hard work ethic, and respect for others made her a valued employee and colleague at FAG Bearing for decades. Filomena was a long-time member of St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church and expressions of sympathy may be made to the Church through the WG Young Funeral Home. In keeping with Mom’s wishes, a private family visitation and mass took place in honour of a life well lived.  Entombment was at St. Peter’s Mausoleum in London. We wanted to thank the exceptional care provided by Dr. Thomas and the Palliative care nurses, Amy and Danielle which allowed us to honour mom’s wishes to remain at home.
