It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Cherian (Blessen) Varughese on July 25, 2022. He passed away peacefully at his home with his family.

Cherian Thozuvathankal Varughese was born on April 10, 1942, in Podiyadi, Thiruvalla, Kerala State, India. Cherian is survived by his devoted wife of 51 years, Gracy. He will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered by his children, Seema (Ben) and Sunil (Anu) and his grandchildren, Jaya, Dev and Citasha, who were his greatest pride and joy.

Cherian was the eldest son of T.V. and Aleyamma Cherian. He is survived by his sister Omana Alex (Pappachen), sister-in-law Santhosh, cousins, nieces and nephews.  He was pre-deceased by his younger brother P.C. Roy. Cherian studied mechanical engineering at S.V. Polytechnical Institute in Bhopal, India, and was in the Indian Army Core of Engineers for five years as second Lieutenant in Pune, India. He immigrated to Stratford, Ontario in 1970. He worked in Ingersoll for three years at Essex Wire. He then worked at Novatronics for 27 years in Stratford as a senior machinist and as a representative for his local International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers union, machine shop supervisor and manufacturing engineer before retiring.

He loved walking around the Avon River with Gracy and sitting on their front porch in the summer. Cherian created beautiful gardens in their Baker Street home.  He had a deep appreciation for classical Indian dance and music, as well as Indian Art films. He also enjoyed driving and taking long road trips with his family across North America.  Cherian was known by family and friends for his storytelling, humour and sense of style.  He always put his family first and we are forever grateful for his wisdom and love.

Visitation will take place at the W.G. Young Funeral Home, 430 Huron Street, Stratford on Saturday, July 30, from 9am until the time of the funeral service at 11 a.m. Please refrain from wearing strong perfumes or colognes. 519.271.7411
