John “Jack “Edwin Rutherford, age 90, life-long resident of Stratford, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 7, 2022 at Cedarcroft Place with his two sons by his side. Born in Stratford, son of the late John and Rheta “Kelly” (Kalbfleisch) Rutherford. Jack was predeceased by his loving wife Marilyn (Mercer) Rutherford (June24, 1998). Proud and loving father of John (Brenda) Rutherford and Brian (Avril) Rutherford. Grandfather of Mike (Emma), Steve (Renee), Matt (Laura), Andrew, Kaitlin, John, Aaron and great grandchildren Abbie and Ben. The family would like to sincerely thank all the staff at Cedarcroft Place for the wonderful care given to their father. It is very much appreciated.

Jack lived a very activate lifestyle. He enjoyed football, fishing, volleyball, skiing, golf, and boating. Along with Marilyn, they enjoyed travelling to various destinations such as Scotland, England, Alaska, Hawaii, the Caribbean, and Florida. He was a member of the local Kinsmen and K40 clubs, and Power Squadrons. When not travelling, spare time was spent at the cottage on the Bruce with their yellow Labrador Retrievers. He also enjoyed spending time with his grand kids and great grand kids.

After nineteen years at Samsonite, Jack changed careers and started the family business, Jack Rutherford Customs Brokers Ltd. (The Rutherford Group). Which he was actively involved until his late Eighties.

Besides his parents and his wife Marilyn, Jack was predeceased by his mother and father-in-law Aubrey and Mary Mercer and his brothers-in-law Jack Mercer and his wives Peggy and Eleanor and Bill and Joyce Mercer. Family and friends are invited to Jack’s visitation on Thursday, August 11, 2022 from 5 -8 p.m. at the funeral home. Jack’s funeral service will take place at the funeral home on Friday, August 12, 2022 at 10:30 a.m. Interment to follow in Avondale Cemetery. As expressions of sympathy memorial donations maybe made to the Stratford Perth Humane Society or Stratford general Hospital Foundation through the W. G.
