Mary Rose Cannan, age 101 of Stratford, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 31, 2022 at Stratford General Hospital. Born in St. Catharines, ON, daughter of the late Daniel and Mary (Collins) Fenton. Predeceased by her husband Bernard Cannan June 27, 1973. Loving mother of John Cannan and Andrew (Melodie) Cannan. Proud grandmother of Kade Cannan. Mary Rose will be fondly remembered by her sisters-in-law Gisele Fenton and Pauline Bilodeau, many nieces, nephews, great and great-great nieces and nephews as well as extended family in Canada, Australia, and the United States. Mary Rose is also remembered by many wonderful neighbours, staff at the Health Unit, friends around the world, and especially her close friend, Donna Taylor.

Mary Rose was raised in Ottawa, ON, and graduated in 1944 from St. Michaels Hospital as a Registered Nurse and nursed in Halifax as a nursing sister in Royal Canadian Navy until 1947. She got her convocation at McGill University in 1949. She later nursed in New York City, Florida, and Germany, came to Stratford in 1966, working for the Perth District Health Unit as a Public Health Nurse from 1968 – 1984 when she retired. Mary Rose was an active member of St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church and the C.W.L for many years, she was also a member of the IODE and the Stratford General Hospital Auxiliary. Mary Rose also volunteered her time to many wonderful organizations within the community.

Besides her parents and her husband, Mary Rose was predeceased by her brothers Daniel and his wife Mary Fenton and Robert Fenton. Family and friends are invited to a visitation from 12 noon until the time of the Memorial Mass at 2:00 p.m., on Thursday, September 8, 2022 at St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, 96 Huron St, Stratford.
